The whole point of java was to make large, dependable, and easily refactorable projects that were also highly portable. You might be able to download the repo and open it, but be prepared to get reamed for a week trying to get intellij, maven/gradle, and all the other dependencies to talk to one another. I've worked on many jvm projects not long ago, I've never had one that would work just out of the box. Yeah, all of this is no longer true for java. Rust support and JetBrains' slow progress on many issues, I will probably switch to VS Code at some point. But with the progress that Visual Studio Code makes with e.g. I have a ToolBox subscription (among other reasons because IntelliJ is still the best Java IDE). ![]() There are some issues about this in their bug tracker, but the JetBrains personnel either do not seem to understand how the Linux graphics stack works (and come with non-solutions) or say that it is low on their priority list. My only gripe is that they do not have native Wayland support and as a result the IDEs are blurry with GNOME fractional scaling. The JetBrains IDEs are lightning-fast, including indexing. I never had that issue on Linux with a Ryzen CPU (3700X) though. I have noticed the same issue with my Intel MacBooks, it's slow and the fans spin loudly. These must be macOS issues or problems with the limited thermal envelopes ofIntel Macs. This release makes the IDE so incredibly fast! Indexing dependencies happens magnitudes faster than Intel version. In this way, the first stage to create a Kafka Project will be completed. That joy has subsided in recent years with performance on Mac Intel. Choosing this option will enable the IntelliJ IDEA to automatically download all the necessary dependencies, which we will define later in the 'pom.xml' file. Step10: Now, the setup will ask to 'Enable Auto-Import' on the bottom-right side of the screen. In the above snapshot, the name of the project is 'helloproducer1', and the project location is the 'Local C Drive'. Note: It is good to keep the Project name, same as the ArtifactId. Step9: Next, the user needs to provide a project name and the location where the user wants to keep the project. Here, 'firstgroupapp.jtp' is the name of the GroupId, 'helloproducer1' is the ArtifactId, and '2.0.0' is chosen as the Version number. Provide the following details and click 'Next'. For doing so, a GroupId, an ArtifactId, as well as Version value is required. Step8: Now, it's time to create a new project. Note: Generally, the home directory for JDK will be the root directory only. If not so, click on the 'New' option and select the respective home directory for JDK 8. It should be java 8 (if properly installed). Step7: From the left side navigation panel, select 'Maven' or 'Gradle' option. Step6: IntelliJ IDEA welcome screen will open. Click on the 'Start using IntelliJ IDEA'. This will allow users to develop Scala projects too. Step5: In this section, install the Scala support. Skip this step and click on 'Next Featured plugins'. Step4: Next, the user will be asked to disable some default plugins (if required). In our tutorial, the default theme is selected, i.e., the Light one. After selecting anyone, click on 'Next Default plugins'. Step3: After opening, the installer will provide two UI theme options: Click on the checkbox and then click the 'Continue' option. Step2: The JetBrains Privacy Policy will appear. This option is chosen because the user might be installing IntelliJ for the first time. Select 'Do not import settings' radio button. ![]() ![]() A dialog box will open asking to import settings from the previous installation. Step1: Open the IntelliJ IDEA from its shortcut. In this way, IntelliJ IDEA will get installed to the system. Step7: The IntelliJ IDEA will start installing to the system.Īfter installing the setup, click on Next, then Finish. Step6: Choose the start menu folder as 'JetBrains' (by default). This will associate the java files automatically with IntelliJ IDEA. If the user is working on a 64-bit machine, select accordingly. Step5: Choose an appropriate desktop shortcut. Step4: Choose an appropriate installation location. ![]() Click next and follow the installer instructions. Step3: After the security check, the setup will start loading. Step2: After downloading, move to the Download location, and start the installer. Step1: Download IntelliJ IDEA using the Jetbrains website or using the below link:ĭownload the Community edition because it is free as well as open-source edition. Prerequisite: java8 should be installed on the system.įollow the below demonstrated steps to install IntelliJ IDEA on the system:
